The Card Line That Made American Greetings Richer.

"It's more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like, 'What about lunch?'"

I always worked better after lunch. In a think tank, needing to come up with a dynamite hit, well...sure put a lot of pressure on a girl. A hamburger helped.

I began experimenting with drawing big heads and smaller bodies. I had always doodled eyes of all shapes on the corners of my notebook pages, sketch pads, and unopened bills. I decided to put this odd quirk to use. Soon, a series of little girls with big heads and eyes took shape. The writers added copy and gave the card line its name, Little Miss Moppets.

When this series of eight, 10-inch high, die-cut little girls became one of the most financially successful card lines, per card, in the history of the company, no one was more surprised than I!

Becoming the new discovery of the owner of the company, Irving Stone, was even more surprising.

I say all this not out of pride, but to relate how this particular success opened my mind to what was possible.
